POPCORN Hour A-300 Review Part 2

by on Mar.20, 2012, under Reviews

Image Quality

I like to compare image from media players with a Dune vs. the Popcorn Hour A-300.  The Popcorn is on same par with the dune and might actually be a bit more vibrant and crispier.

Sound Quality

Sound was also excellent either via down mixing or bit streaming. However there is a problem playing bit streaming of different region blurays which I will explain later in the media playback column.

POPCORN Hour A-300 Review Part 1

by on Mar.07, 2012, under Reviews

Every now and than something revolutionary comes into the market and becomes a game changer.  Ipad did it and so did the iphone. In the FULL HD Media players world there were a few but usually it was the processor capabilities that actually change how we played and use different media source. Hopefully the review I will be doing now might be one of those that make a difference.

The Syabas POPCORN hour players have been in the market for many years. They have been good sturdy players until Media Players from China even manage to copy and reused their OS (firmware) as one of their own without Syabas permission.

However for me I never found the liking in the Syabas OS systems. Either media file search was slow or the menu system was to basic for my liking and their boxes was rather plain for my taste.

Yangxi V12 Review

Popcorn A-300, Dune Prime 3.0 and Yangxi V12

The market is flush with tons of media of players. Some were great in the beginning and falter at the end.  It might take months before a player will show it real colors so my review sometimes might not spot problems in the players instantly, but I do try. (in fact i should have a long term results page for players)

If you notice the picture above I have my trusty Dune Prime 3.0 player in there and above the new Popcorn A-300 (which I will be reviewing soon after extended test) and the Yangxi V12. Today I be looking at the V12.

Using the Realtek 1186DD+ chip, with speed of around 750Mhz & 512MB DDR3 memory, the player has included a Andriod OS system, Web APPS and 3D capabilities.  I do not have a 3D TV no neither have a 3D media file but I will try to test that on a later date.
