Dvico Tvix 6500a : Best Media Player Out There

by admin on Jan.09, 2009, under Reviews

After using or selling dvico 4000,4100 and 5100 (also sarotech 570, hdx1000).. dvico has finally outdone themselves with dvico 6500/7000. (didn’t dare buy them at the beginning because of the overheating problems)

From the ease of installation to the beautiful picture quality that comes out from this wonderful machine, dvico has created one of the best media player tank out there.. (using firmware 1.3.74f)

Dvico newly improved menu system so much faster and nicer to look at. Scrolling from one file to another or chosing a folder is so fast its blinding…

Did I say the picture quality is outstanding.  Well when running v for vendetta 1080p file .. my jaws drop when pure blackness came out during the opening sequances. Most of the files that I have run has richer colors and superb contrast…  Bravo!!! Dvico!!!!

Most files I have run , played without a hitch. Subtitles on mkv files were simple and easy to select. On normal avi files most format subtitles were playable.

One problem I did find were mkv files formatted with vc-1 format (ie iron man 1080p vc-1).. there were slight delay in picture and sound. To solve this problem I find that if u start the file running , quickly press the goto button and click a few seconds ahead… everything be ok after that.

I haven’t played with a external hard drive yet or with network or ftp function.. will update when the time comes

What others thing i like :
delete button on the remote (a specialty with all dvicos)
Nice led screen in front of the machine (displays times, minutes, and file being played)
able to play dts-hd without a pre-amp..

dislikes
should have esata connection

Verdict:

The undisputable champ of all media players right now. From the ease of use to brilliant picture quality you can’t go wrong in buying this machine. Only the price is the stumbling block. So if u want to make sure that almost 99.9% of of media files u have to work, get the dvico 6500a.

Hey there! Thanks for the link!

Well well, it looks like I might sell my Sarotech 570X and go for the 6500a. It’s a little more pricey, but if it works as well as you say than it’s worth it!

I will keep an eye on this page!

Great review!! some real world comments and feedback, and fantastic pics with the HDX and the WD TV.

I had my heart set on the HDX1000 over the Popcorn A110 as the use the same firmware except for the HDX is a better built unit with the HDD staying cooler due to the HDX body. I was also considering the Dvico 6500 as I need to stream my content from a Netgear readynas duo on my home network via cat5 cable.

However I score a verycheap WD HD TV unit very cheap, as was a return, since getting it hame, updating the firmware and tweaking a few setting it has be fantastic, I will keep it for another room as I need networking feature.

This leaves me still to decide on the HDX or the 6500. Can you provide direct comparisons between the two, is the 6500 a more polished product, is it worth the extra $100 for this unit. Is the menu system and speed, ease of use so much better?

    Cheers
