Preview: HDX-BD1 Part 1

by admin on Jan.27, 2010, under Preview

alright straight to the point…

the hdx bd1 can play and read a bluray disc.. however cannot escape the protection in the original disc..

jack sparrow (pirated) bluray disc should be ok …

bd-iso play without problem .. however my kingdom of heaven iso had problem at chapter 60.. a lot of stuttering..and my denon true-hd logo was going bonkers… the other titles played without a hitch

bluray bdmv folder format played without any problems

bluray menus displayed without any problems

truehd audio data had no problem bitstreaming…

Problems

networking .. but that might need more time tweaking…

Pictures:

HDX-BD1 connected to a bluray drive.. (liteon)

All my bluray disc gave me this error…

How i know the bluray disc can be read from the bluray drive..well if i set the setting from bd to general .. i could see the directory of the disc..

but even when I click on the largest file it will just fail..

but bdmv and iso format works properly ,as anydvd rip action, has remove all copy protection..

There will be a more comprehensive review coming out later.  Still need to fiddle with the machine more as I only received it today.

so far the machine is quite impressive .. very fast with the menus, slick remote (with backlight), external hard drive detects in a blink of a eye,

not sure whether this is a problem .. but hdx specs suggest that the esata is for linking with a bd-rom:- 1x eSATA (for external HDD or BD Rom Connectivity).. and i been linking the bd-rom to a sata link..

Testing Updates:

looking at the compability list for bluray players.. my liteon

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/C-200_Compatibility_Lists

Player: eON iHES208

Compatibility :MIXED

c200 firmware: 02-01-090904-19-POP-408

Remarks

Retail Blu-rays play OK. Mixed results with BD-R/RE, seems to depend on media & burn quality. MKV on DVD-R SL plays OK.

Movie backups on DVD-R and Retail DVDs play OK, but stutter if C-200 is set for incorrect framerate. Always do a cold boot after switching between 24/50/60Hz or next playback attempt crashes almost immediately. Extremely noisy drive with some media.

hmmm seem retail bluray should be playing ok ..

might be firmware problem for the hdx …

need to find more bluray drive to test with..

however the damn Sony BDU-X10S  drive sold out in my locality…

Will try new firmware http://bbs.hd-1080.com/bbs/viewthread.php?…&extra=page%3D1

We are pleased to annouce firmware release for the new HDX BD-1.

Release Date          :      25th Jan 2010
Firmware Version     :     9.2.1.4.6.0

Release Notes:

1) Added remarks before resetting to factory default
2) Added region change for BD content by pressing RED button on remote, disable region change during playback preventing system crash.
3) Fixed BD Live blurry reliability issue.
4) Fixed ejecting external ROM causing system hang.

Testing Bluray rips:

Some of the full Bluray rips i have that went straight to movie using dvico 6500a, i roughly knew that this rips were most likely having java menu or advance menus, which the dvico 6500a couldn’t play.. so it defaulted to basic menu

with hdx-bd1 bd-j features, the menus pop out in all its glory..

One bluray rip ratatouille, i couldn’t hit menu had to wait and wait, going through all the movie previews before the menu came out…

anyway update to latest firmware. found the last bookmark feature dissapeared.
also sound is a problem.. after new firmware .. because i notice the volume is set to maximum 100… and it crackles..
i don’t know about you guys but even my dvico 6500a my sound is only set to middle (lets say 50)

after i set to 50 on the hdx bd-1 .. sound does not crackle any more…anyway still testing

pressing the red button to fix region did not help …. still got problem..
will be trying esata method later

tested with esata .. and same warning screen again..
bluray drive wouldn’t play….

either hdx again haven’t paid somebody for royalty usage…

or just need to find a compatible drive….
