Yangxi Diyomate S7T Reviews
by admin on Feb.25, 2010, under Reviews
A new upgrade model for Diyomate S7T media player, suposely able to play Hi-def sound. Built around the realtek 1073 chip so the operating software will almost be the same with all the other that use this chip.
Specification
Casing
Looking almost exactly as the old S6, Diyomate has made only a few changes by embossing the company name in gold and a nicer finish casing.
The front you will find two USB connection, a memory card slot and touch buttons for media player controls that glows in blue when the machine comes on.
Connections
At the back you will Component (green, blue, red), Composite (yellow), Audio (red, white), optical , HDMI and lan connection.
Menu system
The only reason why I don’t review all this realtek chip media player is because in almost all the machine the menu system is exactly the same. Only sometimes the media player has some special features worth reviewing.
Copy Menu
With this menu you can actually copy files from one media to another media without the use of a PC
Music
The media player will only search for music files and will list them out.
HD DVD
The media player will display files on a external DVD drive
Movie
The media player will display movie media files only
Internet
Youtube, Flickr and more
Photo
Will display jpeg or any photo capable files
Setup
Audio
Standard for realtek chips the menu for setup has 5 tabs. They are Audio, Video, Network, System, Misc.
The audio menu will let you choose the method on how HD sound will travel out from the player.
Video
Nothing different in the video menu. Standard features for the realtek chip.
Network
System
Misc
Operation:
First thing first, I like to mention again Realtek media players basically is almost the same for every one of them. It’s only what the manufacturer would like to do to distinguish them apart from other competitors.
Sound
Diyomate S7T specialty is the added feature of able to play HD media sounds. Box mention DTS-HD or Dolby HD.
However during my testing I found the player has problem playing English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround. Where on playing a unrecognized format error will pop out.
For DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio, the player will be able to play it however the Amp will not have the blue logo True HD activate. In fact it look like the player downmix it to DTS . How can I tell? Well by playing Roy Orbison FullBluray Rips I was able to deduce it by looking at what my amp was receiving from the player. I used the Dvico 6500A as comparisons.

Diyomate S7T
In order to choose the audio files I need to press audio on the remote of the Diyomate. By clicking a number of times different audio selection will be shown and you just have to leave at the sound you want. Dvico 6500A you just have to choose menu (and if its a basic menu) you can choose which sound you want like a normal bluray disc.
As you can see from the pics above Diyomate is able to play DTS-HD sound however the player downmix it.
TrueHD is still not possible (even with firmware 1.03)
Playback Search
I found there was a bug in when you need to forward a chapter in a movie file or bluray rip. By clicking the forward or rewind button on the remote the player will just come out with a message that if you click it again it will go to the next file not to the next chapter.
But other search methods worked. By hitting the “Goto” button on the remote you will come up with the usual search popup. You can either punch in the time or chapters. Chapters and titles however does not work. Obviously its a bug.
Hitting the fast forward or rewind button you can go maximum 32x to search which scene
Network
Realtek does have a good network setup. After you find your network and clicking on it you will be able to enter your username and password through the use of the remote as a keyboard
After entering you will be able to access the files in the network share
However I did find the speed of the network to be lock to probably around 20 kbits or less. As and when you connected through the network, as you are scrolling through the media files, a pop up will appear showing the speed of the network
Because of this speed playing bluray files has problems in running. A lot of stuttering. But others MKV or Avi files played without any problems through network.
Menu system
Using the cursor to browse around was fast and easy in the system. However scrolling through files in a directory with over 500 files, I found it a bit tedious and slow. lets say i need to get a files that’s starts with M. Scrolling from A to M is soooo tedious.
Subtitles
Able to click subtitle button and activate it. In the popup screen it does look that you able to change size of the letterings but in my testing it was not possible for me to do it.
DVD ISO BLURAY ISO BDMV Playback
I found the Diyomate has no problem playing all Rips out there. For bluray iso or BDMV the diyomate will popup a screen asking you whether you would run straight or go to the directory of the rip. If you pick straight the Diyomate will pick which file is the best to play first and will start.
If you choose directory , diyomate will let you go straight into the movie rip directory and you will choose yourself which file to run
Again there is no bluray menu for you to choose. Everything you need to choose from audio to subtitles to which chapters you have to do it blindly with the remote. With the forward chapter bug its even harder.
For DVD full rip you will have menu to choose everything
Internet Access
I ran the youtube links without problems. Didn’t try the other link but Diyomate Internet access will is ready for other special links if the develop wants to install them.
Firmware Upgrade
Through the menu setup I was able to upgrade the firmware very easily. I put the new firmware in a SD card. Activate system upgrade button and the machine will do the rest
Conclusion
Diyomate does have problems. Bugs does make the operation of the machine a bit troublesome. However if you looking for a cheap player that play DTS-HD downmix files and bluray ISO and BDMV without problem, you can’t help but look at this player as a obvious choice.
To me the only thing going for this player would be the price.

You mentioned the reason getting this unit is the price, how much does it cost you?
Compare this with Yangxi HDpro which you also reviewed, other than Yangxi HDpro able to install a Harddisk, what are the differences?
I’m thinking of getting 1 unit so your advice would be useful, thanks.
